Proposition 47, passed on November 4, 2014 and became effective November 5, 2014. It allowed certain felonies to be redesignated (reduced) to misdemeanors, with certain exceptions.

The following offenses, if felonies, may be petitioned to become misdemeanors:

  • Health & Safety Code sections 11350, 11357, and 11377
  • Certain property offenses with a value under $950

A felony conviction that is redesignated (reduced) to a misdemeanor pursuant to Penal Code section 1170.18 shall be considered a misdemeanor for all purposes, except that a redesignation (reduction) shall not permit that person to own, possess, or have in their custody or control a firearm or prevent their conviction under Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 29800) of Division 9 of Title 4 of Part 6.
