The Homeless Outreach Court is a collaboration of the Orange County Courts, Orange County Public Defender, and the Orange County District Attorney.

The Homeless Outreach Court serves those who are homeless and have outstanding infractions and low-level misdemeanors. Homeless Outreach Court cannot resolve felony cases, cases outside the County of Orange, or parking tickets.

The goal of the Court is to help participants move forward from life on the streets by removing the stresses of fines that are difficult to pay.

Participants are required to connect to services and complete concrete steps to move out of homelessness.

The Orange County Public Defender’s Office helps Homeless Outreach Court Participants to set goals, and will link Participants to needed services, including shelter programs, transitional housing, drug treatment, mental health treatment, medical and dental aid, food bank services, government benefits, employment, obtaining identification, legal aid, record cleaning, child support, and educational/vocational training.

After successful completion of the Homeless Outreach Court, Participants may have charges and outstanding fines and fees dismissed in recognition of their efforts.
